It can be easy to fall into the belief that because God considers us his children, our lives will be full of pleasantries. We are blessed by God, aren’t we? But perhaps that blessing takes a different shape then what we would like
Did you know, according to Romans 6:16, you’re a slave? But we get to choose who we serve and when we serve God in all that we do, we become His children.
The first commandment of the ten commandments is to have no other gods before God. Although most of us don’t bow down and worship statues, it can be surprisingly easy to let ourselves and other people become gods instead. When we do, our lives fall apart, but there’s hope.
Hearing Jesus is Lord, especially in church settings, is quite common. Recently, I was hit with the wait of this. Jesus is King. That means He has authority, and it's changed for the better.
Smoke swirled around the cavern from the flaming logs that had been scattered. Intense heat burned the back of Zoe’s neck. She screamed, but fell to the ground and rolled, putting her hair out. She felt behind her at the missing 7-inches of wavy auburn hair. She sucked in a sharp breath through the string of the burns, and held her lower back. “Dad?” There was a cough and a groan. Zoe waved the smoke out of her eyes and looked around. “Dad!”
Joseph: “Guess who.” Mary: (spins around.) “Joseph! You’ll never believe what just happened.” Joseph: “It took you less than an hour to fold all the laundry?” Mary: “I just saw an angel.” Joseph: “Like an angel of the Lord? Come, on Mary. I know you like to be creative, but don’t you think that’s a little far. Angels only appear to great people.” Mary: “But one did, Joseph! It’s no story! I’m telling the truth.” Joseph: “Well, what did he tell you then, dear?” Mary: “The Lord, He came upon me and said I would bear His son. I’m pregnant. Just like the prophet Isaiah said, “Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign. Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.” [Isaiah 7:14]
