The Holy Spirit isn’t a Pet

Back when I first started posting devotionals on my website, I noticed I had written about encountering God the Father and Jesus as King. But there was one member of the trinity missing, the Holy Spirit.

I could not remember being taught very much about the Holy Spirit in church, or even my year in Bible College. It was almost as if He was the silent member of the trinity. But our God has these three facets of Himself, and so, prayerfully, I sought out the Holy Spirit.

In my own mind, I had treated the Holy Spirit like God’s pet—I mean, He descended on Jesus like a dove, right? He’s our Helper, the messenger who brought our prayers to the One who could actually do something about them. But in my searching and research, I learned that The Holy Spirit is a person. He has a personality and desires to commune with us. Not only that, but just as Jesus is Lord, the Father is Lord, and the Holy Spirit is Lord.

Jesus, in fact, tells His disciples, “But very truly I tell you, it is for your good that I am going away. Unless I go away, the Advocate will not come to you; but if I go, I will send him to you.” (John 16:7)

What? There’ve been so many times I’ve wished Jesus could just come stand next to me and help me through whatever challenge I’m going through. But He just told His own disciples the Holy Spirit will be able to help them far more than He can. And the proof of this can be seen though their lives in the New Testament.

The Holy Spirit is waiting to here from you. Pray to Him today and watch Him move.

P.S. There is a lot more to this story, and I hope to publish a full devotional and put it on my website soon.

Writing

What I’ve been working on and Updates:

My goal is to have the first round of edits on my current novel (Ivory Kiss) completed by May. I’ve edited 14104/144,000 words, so just about 10%!

I am still hoping to have a Biblical Fiction Novel drafted by the end of the year.

I’m critiquing and editing for friends, currently I’m working on one piece for J. L. Burrows and one for Ed Smith.

I’m still reading books from my author’s group, Charis, in order to prepare myself for March 8th and 9th when we will be at AuthorCon in Smyrna, TN.

Reading

My Goals this year was to read at least 24 novels. Last month, I read 3.

Currently, I’ve read:

Amy R. Anguish’s Destination: RomanceThis was a super cute contemporary romance. It reminds me of an old Disney channel/Hallmark hybrid. Again, not my typical genre, but I have found myself enjoying this librarian finding love.

Our Faithful Love (Love in Pleasant Springs Book 2) by LuAnn K Edwards

For a contemporary romance, I actually really found myself enjoying this one. It was really the best of the enemies to lovers and childhood best friends trope. Not only that, but the plot dealt with trying to help foster kids find life again, which really touched my heart.

Window of the Heart (The Stained-Glass Legacy Book 3) by Amy R. Anguish

This book also had the enemy to loves trope going, which I do find fun, but even more than that I think Amy did a really good job modeling in her male protagonist how Jesus chases us down with His love. The tie-ins to the stained-glass window also shine beautifully in the book.

Currently I’m reading:
Love Delivered by my friends, Amy R. Anguish and Rachel Herod (and others)

Love Delivered is a novella collection around deliveries. Amy’s story was a cute short one about a somewhat grouchy grocery store owner and a woman who is a grocery shopper for an app.

Life Update

I guess the biggest thing recently is that Brian (my husband) and I have been looking for some sort of supplemental income. Yes, this has been a stressful process, but through delivering through Door Dash we’ll been able to see God’s hand.

I’m still homeschooling our girls, and loving it. Lily and Azalea are almost completely potty trained, which is also very nice. That was a picture of our homeschool table earlier this month.

If you haven’t seen it yet, I posted a short story that I had wrote on my website. It’s about a woman who attempt to sneak past the cherubim and flaming sword to steal a fruit from the tree of life to save Eve. Titled: Breaking into Eden

Also, I’ve done a few online roleplay sessions led by Caleb M. Powers. One was based on the Stormlight Archives (a novel series by Brandon Sanderson) and the other is called Pendragon, based on the King Arthur story. These have been so much fun and a great opportunity to meet awesome people and let my nerd out.
